This sculpture is made using a process called lost wax casting. This process is where the model is converted into wax and then melted from the mold in which bronze will be cast. Once the metal has cooled it is cast to remove imperfections and polish. Lastly, the sculpture is finished with a glaze. To finish the process the mold is removed which means only a small number of copies are produced at one time.
Miguel Moreno is a Granadian sculptor and goldsmith, specialising in metal casting. His artistic production encompasses everything from small pendants to large sculptural monuments. Although his material of choice is bronze mostly, he also uses marble, stone, ivory, wood, gold, silver and sheet metal (iron, steel, zinc, aluminium, copper, brass, etc.)
This sculpture represents Don Quixote with a book in his left hand and a spear in his right. Miguel Moreno presents his version of the protagonist in Cervantes’ work, how he styled him and emphasising his features and slim build.
